Scouts are courteous
I looked up the dictionary definitions of the words chivalry and courteous. I wanted to see what the dictionary had to say about these two words as they are not used very much anymore. I found that the words have a lot of the same descriptor words listed in each of their definitions. So, I dug deeper to find out where both words originated and found that both words originated in the middle ages... [More]
By: InsaneScouter On: 2018-09-17Profile of a special needs Scout and family
First, every registered adult is a volunteer and those in uniform paid for their own uniform and those are not cheap. Let me repeat, every registered adult leader in a Unit is a volunteer and pays annual dues on top of that. Scouting is not respite and too many families with Special Needs Scouts seem to view Scouting as this. Many Special Needs Scouts have multiple or severe disabilities which need constant support. I... This is a Black man giving you advice on how to respond when people say stuff like that. Ready?(silence)Just walk away, or find another place in the room, or just ignore him and listen to something in your mind. "Upward Trail" comes to my mind,... [More]

By: Scott Robertson On: 2018-09-07Top 7 Map & Compass Resources
I remember being a 3rd or 4th grader in school and having a chance to go out to the school farm. One of the things that they taught us was how to use a map and a compass. The teachers split us up into groups and gave us a map and a compass to use. We were then blindfolded and put on the school bus and dropped off in different locations around the farm... [More]

The best way to wrap up a meeting and make sure everyone knows it is time to go is to close with ScoutMaster Minutes. This is an opportunity for the ScoutMaster to address the troop and leave them with something to think about. It is usually a short story with a moral, a quote, or a thought. The Eagle and the WolfThere is a great battle that rages inside me. One side is a soaring... [More]

I recently visited my mom and sister and we took a day trip to the Northeastern part of Lake Tahoe with our dogs. It was a bit hazy due to the various wildfire’s smoke blowing into the area. Tahoe can be a tourist trap and be crowded at times. Also due to road construction, there were 5 to 10-minute delays in a few different spots. They also have issues with garbage bears. Overall we enjoyed... [More]

One of my favorite National Parks to visit is the Great Smokey Mountains. I’ve been here 3 times so far and still have a great deal left to see and do that I’ve never had a chance to do. I thought I would share some of the things I would like to go see and do at this Park, the next time I get an opportunity. I thought I would check out some of the... [More]
By: InsaneScouter On: 2018-08-235 different campfire cooking ideas!
There is nothing like coming back to the campsite after a day of hiking or biking out in the woods and smelling dinner cooking! Food cooked over or on a campfire, outside, just seems to taste better. Scouts would go camping every single weekend if they were able to. They love being in the outdoors but as fun as camping can be, it can also be a lot of work for the troop leader. So... [More]
