The Future BSA: not
Two weeks ago now, my local Council and the national organization I represent to the BSA (the US Scouting Service Project, Inc.) sent me to represent them during the BSA's National Annual Meetings in Denver. The national meetings -- in plural for there are more than just the annual business meeting designed to inform, update and elect the national team leading the nation's leading youth-serving organization; there are many other meetings of committees, subcommittees,... Deal or Bankruptcy?
Last week, volunteers from across our nation and those representing our two overseas local Councils, met in Denver to help plot the azimuth, check the maps and lay a positive course for the continuation of the Boy Scouts of America. They were successful and have shared their plan – what they call a “Game Plan” – with their thousands of volunteers unable to attend and participate in the discussions. This "Game Plan" -- a one... A Weeklong Gathering
Photo from ASMAC What do you call a weeklong gathering of patrols from all over? Well, Scouts de México called a Nacional Scout camporee "Brownsea Island." It brought more than 2,000 Scouts and their leaders from all parts of the republic, Tijuana and Nuevo Laredo to Quintana Roo and Chiapas. It was a Scout Patrol event, not Manadas of Lobatos (Cub Scouts in the USA), and except for several program staffers, Caminantes (Venturers) and... [More]

Mackinaw Island State Park
Mackinaw Island holds some special memories for me after visiting with my parents, as a boy and then again with my children as a parent. I’ve been there at least five times and enjoyed it thoroughly each time. Each time, we did something a little different (or so it seemed) in the way we got to and from the island and also while we were there. Probably the trip I enjoyed the most... [More]

Top 80's Family Movies
I would like to let you know about some of my favorite family-friendly movies from the 1980s. These movies are not listed or described in any particular order, but just some of the family-friendly movies that I remember from the 1980s. These are movies that are all rated so that the entire family can enjoy and watch and nobody has to worry about any profanity or nudity but just good family fun. Maybe there is... [More]

"May 22, 2019”June 4th marks the 100th anniversary of Congress passing the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. This was a historic moment and an important step that empowered all citizens’ voices to be heard.Civic duty is core to Scouting and foundational to Scouts BSA, which in 2019, one hundred years later, celebrates its own milestone in welcoming all youth to this life-changing program. Some of our newest troops even saw... [More]

Our Funny Animals
How many of us have an animal or two or maybe more at home? I have several cats at home. They are all ‘rescue’ kitties… kitties that we found (as kittens) outside somewhere. One was found down in the bottom of a water drainage ditch, another found on the handicapped walkway of the local mall, others found alongside the road crying pitifully. Others discarded them, or perhaps they got lost from their family,... [More]
