What about getting to see firsthand what it's like to be a fireman who is going to respond to a blazing fire somewhere in your city? During the recent National Annual Meeting of the Boy Scouts of America, held in Atlanta, I attended several sessions geared to share information and to bring it back to my local Council to share with them. Since my "local Council" (Transatlantic) serves youth in some 60 (I haven't counted the total number of countries, so I'm guessing 60) countries on three continents (Europe, Africa, Asia) within 13 time zones, I decided to share my Scouting experiences with all of you.  The most important thing, as expressed in several of the sessions, was to "tell YOUR Scouting Story, " especially to those ......

Scouting doesn’t stop, even after you move on from a unit. In 1988, a group of Scouters whose sons were no longer part of Troop 172 of Westfield, N.J., wanted to stay involved in the program that had shaped their families’ lives. So, they began working in a two-car garage at Winnebago Scout Reservation in New Jersey. They used their talents and some old donated equipment to do maintenance at the camp, replace signs at other Patriots’ Path Council camps, and construct new buildings and a waterfront. When you join a Scouts BSA troop, one of the first things you’ll work on is earning the rank of Scout. Good news! You’ll complete many of these same requirements when you’re a Webelos Scout.
