Scouters, it's great you joined us for another issue of our weekly newsletter. Did you know I am an Eagle Scout, class of 1991? I earned my Eagle with Troop 141 at Edwards Air Force Base in California, and my service project involved setting up an interpretive trail at Vasquez Rocks, Los Angeles County Park.

With that said, what amazing projects have your Scouts done for their Eagle Project? Would they like a congratulatory letter from us? All you have to do is contact us with the scout's name, details about their project & challenges he overcame, plus any other information you think would be useful. https://insanescouter.org/contact_us.php

Do you find the resources we share useful? Do you appreciate all our hard work? Say thanks by signing up for patreon.com/insanescouter we have options between $1.50 and $6.00 a month. Patreon is safe, it's used by thousands of podcasters and YouTubers. If you prefer, we have PayPal too.

This is not so much a recipe as a suggestion for a camp meal. If you have a camp stove, this is easy as can be. This is always a hit for an easy meal at camp. Webelos can make this pretty independently. Serve it with fruit, salad, and garlic bread. I like to precook the sausage as directed in the recipe. That way I have fewer worries about cross contamination with the Webelos handling the food and cooking than I would with raw meat. Spaghetti Dinner Equipment: ......

Maybe you’ve heard about this coed Scouting program for young men and women and you’re ready to try to organize a Venturing Crew. You might even have a specific group of young people in mind. It could be you know of a group who want to go out hiking or work on model trains together or maybe you just want to get a church youth group going. So where do you start? The Boy Scouts of America way of starting a Crew is shown in bold below. Our Crew is about 18 months old now. Like many ......

A Wolf den leader asked a question about how to fulfill the Footsteps of Faith requirement. She wanted to take her Wolves to a Buddhist temple in the neighborhood so they could learn about a different faith, but the Cubmaster objected. What do you do when the Cubmaster is opposed to the location you want to visit? Different people have very different ideas about what is appropriate for Duty to God requirements.  So here are a few ideas and suggestions. What if all of the Cubs are the same faith? Should you focus on that faith only ......

Spencer Buddington and his friends Tanner Humbert, Clayton Ball and Bryce Vandergriff were shopping for college room decor in January when a general store owner approached them, pleading for help. The store owner’s friend, James Ward, who was at the store helping out, had suffered a heart attack and was unconscious. “All of us know CPR, ” Buddington says. “Three of us are Eagle Scouts and the other is a lifeguard.” The 19-year-old University of Virginia freshman and Eagle Scout from Troop 222 in Abington, Va., led the way into the store, got on the ground and began administering chest ......

A big part of being a member of the Boy Scouts of America is doing a Good Turn. In the end, that’s what it’s all about: doing something nice for someone else. This summer, it means even more. Welcome to the BSA’s Summer of Service. It’s going on now, and you can participate as an individual, with your family or with your Scout unit by simply fulfilling the promise you’ve already made: “To help other people at all times.” HERE’S HOW YOU CAN BE PART OF IT! What can you do to join the Summer of Service? It’s simple. ......

Slade Caltrider came home from a summer canoeing trip with his troop with his legs covered in mosquito bites. Over the next five months, the itching and discomfort never went away. It was definitely odd. What the 16-year-old didn’t know was that he had mediastinal b-cell lymphoma, a cancer that was attacking his lymphatic system. The rashes that never disappeared — that a dermatologist diagnosed as “an extreme case of eczema” — were actually the result of crystals forming under the skin from uric acid that wasn’t being filtered out of his blood. The lymphoma was shutting down his kidneys, ......

Colorado is the ultimate outdoor playground, but there’s one thing you won’t find there: easy access to the ocean. The Centennial State is one of 10 states that are doubly landlocked, meaning a person has to travel through two other states to get to the Pacific, Atlantic or Arctic Oceans. (Nebraska is the only triply landlocked state.) Given its undeniably non-coastal location, it might surprise some people — at least those less familiar with Sea Scouts — to learn that the next National Sea Scout Boatswain hails from Colorado. Cassidy Christian, a 19-year-old from the Denver Area Council, has been ......

Tammy sent in this question: What is considered a Pack Meeting? Our pack has monthly pack meetings and also other events for the entire pack, such as family camping, pinewood derby, etc. Do events such as these take the place of the pack meeting for the month or should they be in addition to the pack meeting? We have mixed feelings in our committee and some feel we should cancel the pack meeting or a den meeting when there is a weekend pack event while others think we keep the schedule as is and people don’t have ......

This gives a whole new meaning to the term “creature comforts.” For his Eagle Scout service project, Jaime Latorre of Troop 2 from Rye, N.Y. (Greater Hudson Valley Council), created an eco-friendly bug hotel. Jaime and his fellow Scouts built the hotel by hand at a local nature center and wildlife preserve. The multistory abode provides a home for beneficial bugs like bees, wasps, beetles, spiders and praying mantises. These are the types of insects we two-legged creatures want around, because they pollinate flowers and plants and help keep unwanted pests at bay. By creating the bug hotel, Jaime has ......
