________________________________________I’ve been thrown a lot of curve-balls in the past 19 years, and this one sits pretty near the top… But it’s sure a winner when it comes to the reply, which I usually omit but I’m making an exception today. I think you’ll enjoy it, too! Hi Andy, I’m one of the trainers for our council’s NYLT staff. The NYLT staff includes both adults and youth. Based on my past training experience, I’m thinking it’s a safe bet that a particular question will come up again. It has to do with cellphones and cameras. Here it is: “What if ......

While working on the Paws for Action-Adventure, Bear Scout Thomas Leskiw could’ve visited a local police station, but his mother, Barbara, had another idea. Her father, Frank Panza worked with the New York State Police for more than 33 years, retiring in 1995. She suggested that Thomas and his Webelos Scout brother Henry, both of Pack 777 in Richardson, Texas, ask their grandfather to take them to his old barracks when they came up to visit. Panza and the troopers at the Troop A-Niagara barracks were more than happy to oblige. Trooper Derek Ljiljanich taking Thomas Leskiw’s fingerprints. At ......

When a major YouTube personality visits a beloved Scout camp, the result is comedy gold — and millions of people introduced to the adventure of Scouting. Mr. Beast, a YouTuber whose philanthropic videos and epic stunts (riding a Ferris wheel 1, 000 times in a row, for example) have grown his following to 30 million subscribers, recently visited Camp Elmore in the South Florida Council. So far, the video has been watched about 16 million times. That’s more than double the average viewership numbers for an episode of This Is Us. And because of the 21-year-old Mr. Beast (aka Jimmy Donaldson) ......

At Girl Scouts, we’re all about trying new and exciting things—especially in the outdoors! With the new Outdoor High-Adventure badges, you can design your own experience by advancing your skiing or snowboarding skills or going on a winter camping trip with your Girl Scout sisters. Yup—camping in the snow! No bugs. No crowds. And white fluff as far as the eye can see. If that sounds like your kind of fun, read on! Inspired by all the possibilities, Girl Scouts of Greater New York planned a winter ski weekend in mid-January and made some incredible memories together. Through the experience, ......

This is Unsung Heroes, a Bryan on Scouting blog series celebrating under-reported acts of Scouting heroism. These are stories that don’t make national headlines — but should. That’s doubly true in this world that can always use more good news. Read the latest story below, and find instructions for sharing your own Unsung Heroes story at the end of the post. Daniel Kevil was at home with his older brother Joshua when he heard Joshua shout in pain. Daniel ran to his brother and realized Joshua had accidentally cut himself in his upper right groin while slicing a watermelon. The wound ......

Mark Little, now Scouts Canada’s Executive Director for Scouting Experience, joins the podcast again to discuss youth leadership and why it’s key to a Scout group’s success and longevity. Podcast Topics Mark Little has certainly changed roles since we spoke to him last — way back in Episode 34, the topic of which was Camp Impeesa (an adventure base in southwestern Alberta). He has moved on from his (volunteer!) role with Scouts' Canada’s Chinook Council and is now working for the organization directly as the Executive Director for Scouting Experience. But regardless, it’s a pleasure to welcome Mark back to ......

Leading a Scouts BSA troop in a big city isn't all that different from leading a troop anywhere else. Whether your town is home to 5, 000 or 5, 000, 000 the goal is the same, help prepare our young men and women for life. As we wrap up our Scouting in the City series, we'd like to introduce you to Nicole Rush, Assitant Scoutmaster, and Lee Amon, Scoutmaster, of Troop 220 in San Francisco, CA. For them and the youth members they serve, Scouting provides a myriad of opportunities that they otherwise would not have access to. Scouting ......

I’ve been slowly working on becoming Eagle this past year but with a lot of other things going on in my life, it’s been hard to work on my project. And I keep getting stuck trying to actually implement it. I’ve gotten my proposal and fundraising approved but I can’t figure out how to implement my project. basically it’s making interactive signs for my local zoo about environmental awareness. but I can’t find anywhere that can print customized metal signs that will match the zoo’s theme. Does anyone know a website or place that would do so? ......
