Holy cow, these emails just keep coming week after week. Do these guys ever take a break? Nope, we try not too. After all, a Scout is Loyal, Helpful, and Brave.

My big ugly face appears huge in your screen, as I scream frantically with a hint of panic… “It’s all around me! It is all around!” With a bit of concern, you tilt your head and ask, “What's all around you?”.  Still screaming for effect and trying not to laugh “Why Air of course!” and then I vanish.

Ok, ok, you knew I was crazy, but now you have no doubts. Did you know you could support my craziness and help keep InsaneScouter going by signing up for Knapsack? https://insanescouter.org/p/5875/0/Knapsack.html

Image by FunkyFocus from PixabayWe thought that since many people still had to stay inside, or at least not be able to go on that summer vacation that the family would typically take…that we would investigate some virtual tours and places to see and visit from inside your home. Many museums and other vacation spots all over the world are enabling folks to try to find new things to see and do by offering free virtual performances, exhibitions, videos, and exclusive performances for people to take in from their homes. You can (with the help of your computer) go for ......

This BSA camp was one that was recommended to us by our readers. Some of the pictures shown on this web page were also sent in from one of our viewers. Camp Laramie Peak is the 7th oldest Boy Scout Camp in America. Camp Laramie Peak is located on a working ranch. The scenery is amazing and you might get to drive through a herd of buffalo. In 2020, CLP is 100 years old. It has been through many disasters and has come out being a wonderful camp. Despite the age, the camp is up to date. From family-style dining ......

I have fond memories of biking parts of this trail on more than one occasion. The Little Miami Scenic Trail is a lot of fun to use. The trail stretches from the suburbs of Cincinnati to Springfield, Ohio, over bridges and through peaceful state parks and several small towns. According to https://www.traillink.com/trail/little-miami-scenic-trail/, the path is part of an extensive sequence of greater than 340 miles of off-road trails that pass through throughout Ohio’s Miami Valley. It is also a significant section of cross-state Ohio to Erie Trail, which takes you from the Ohio River in Cincinnati to Lake Erie in Cleveland ......

Joe Csatari (BSA Image used under Fair Usage Policy) A Frequently Asked Question of Scouters like myself is one which Mike Clark wrote and asked recently:"Has anyone defined "a service project"?"Service project: an individual or group event designed to demonstrate elements of community pride, volunteerism, and/or dedication to principles of the individual or group involved. Activities that "give back" or "pay forward" similar type activities performed for the individual or group. (my personal definition of what a "service project" is)"Why Community Organizations such as the Boy Girl Scouts, our religious groups, civic and fraternal groups do Service Projects?"Schools also perform service projects. They do so ......

Figuring out how to create a fun den meeting in a virtual setting can feel overwhelming. That’s why the National Council and 50 councils across the country worked together to produce these Cub Scout Adventures video resources to help den leaders. They are a series of short videos, prepared by councils, to align with Adventures for each Cub Scout rank. Scouting volunteers and council professionals recruited local subject matter experts, like museums, theaters, businesses and law enforcement agencies as well as the BSA’s national high-adventure bases, to create these videos that cover 96 Cub Scout Adventures. Many of these videos ......

Article Submitted by Tim Hays, Senior District Executive, Longhorn Council By the time October hits, there are a few things that we, as unit-serving executives, should be doing and aware of as we continue to recruit new youth for our districts. During October, many of our first rounds of sign-up nights are done, so at this point we should be looking at where we are membership-wise and where we need to be to reach our goals by the end of December. After we have done this, we can look at which of our units could benefit from holding a follow-up ......

When you feel lost, music can be your saving grace. In April, as the virus continued to spread its dangers, toils and snares across the country, Alex Miller looked at the calendar with trepidation. He could practically hear the clock ticking down the three months until July 30, his 18th birthday. He had one remaining requirement for the Eagle Scout rank: “plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project.” While Alex knew that time extensions are available during COVID-19, he also understood that conditions might not improve any time soon. And besides, he wanted to find a way to ......

Winter coats marked down all summer long! Halloween costumes on sale beginning Nov. 1! Some sales seem timed to meet the interests of the company, not the needs of the customer. In April we shared that the Girl Scouts of the USA Board of Directors had voted to hold Girl Scouts’ 55th National Council Session (NCS) virtually, given the COVID-19 pandemic and Girl Scouts’ focus on safety. As we reimagined NCS as a 100% virtual experience, we realized that we had an opportunity to invite more members to participate!  So as excitement grows for our history-making, first-ever virtual NCS, we’re happy to invite Girl Scout members to join us for our upcoming events:  1 Stewardship Report Webinar—Join us Wednesday, September 9, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. ET to hear about the state ......

The Mangonel is what many people think of when they think of a catapult. From the Latin word manganon meaning engine of war. The Mangonel was invented by the Romans in 400 BC. The Mangonel consists of a long wood arm with a bucket (early models used a sling) with a rope attached to the end. The arm is then pulled back (from natural 90o angle) then energy was stored in the tension of the rope and the arm. Then the bucket would be loaded. When released the Mangonel's arm would return to its equilibrium position, when it came in ......

My son just became a life scout. How do scouts look for Eagle PRojects? I don’t want to pester or make the decision for him. I would like to encourage and guide in the right direction. submitted by /u/BigFrank97 [link] [comments]...

I believe it was someone on this sub that mentioned a drive through / drive up recruiting event. I was trying to brainstorm events that we could do meeting state guidelines, but it’s hard to come up with something enticing to cubs. So I thought the drive through event might be more successful and better attended. Anyone host such an event? What worked and what didn’t? submitted by /u/viderfenrisbane [link] [comments]...

Hi everyone. I'm a pack committee chair, and also District Membership Chair. We just had our recruiting event today, and it was arguably successful. We had 12 families show up, representing 14 kids. Just wanted to pass this along so that it may help others. I realize that depending on where you are, gathering restrictions might be more strict than what we face. First, you have to DO something. I don't think families are looking for another zoom opportunity for their kids. Thankfully, outdoor activities are a natural strength of scouting, and safer for COVID. We scheduled an event at ......

I have a question about Webelos build it. I would like to do this with my group with my group this year but one of the requirements says to visit a construction site . 1) Who in their right mind let’s a bunch of kids visit an active construction site? Seems like a liability nightmare from the standpoint of the construction company. Though we would love it. 2) If this is possible, how do I arrange such a thing? What sort of sites should I consider? I don’t have any parents in my den in construction. 3) When ......
