June 4th marks the 100th anniversary of Congress passing the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. This was a historic moment and an important step that empowered all citizens’ voices to be heard. Civic duty is core to Scouting and foundational to Scouts BSA, which in 2019, one hundred years later, celebrates its own milestone in welcoming all youth to this life-changing program. Some of our newest troops even saw a direct parallel and told us they paid homage to the 19thAmendment by designating themselves Troop 19. To commemorate the 19th Amendment in this important year for ......
If someone presented an award for “earning the most awards, ” Benji Rawald would probably earn that one, too. He’s an Eagle Scout. He has earned every available merit badge and several BSA STEM Nova awards. He received the William T. Hornaday Silver Medal, one of Scouting’s rarest honors and an award that requires recipients to complete the equivalent of four Eagle Scout projects. And just last month, the 17-year-old son of a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel accepted another remarkable honor. Benji, a member of Scouts BSA Troop 280 of Del Rio, Texas (Texas Southwest Council) was named the ......
The moment Jed Stahlback arrived on the beaches of Normandy, the 11-year-old Star Scout was struck by how peaceful everything seemed. “Climbing through flowers and grass growing in the remains of bomb craters seems crazy, ” Jed says. As they stared in silence at a sea of American graves, brothers Andrew and Chris Forbes marveled at the diversity they saw. “There were Stars of David and crosses, ” Andrew says. “Thousands of people from all over America fought on the beaches of Normandy and were buried there.” This chance to witness a place so vital to world history is exactly ......

Here are a few highlights from this epic weekend! Girl Scouts from all levels eagerly checked in. For some Girl Scouts this was their last time bridging. Bridging Girl Scouts buzzed with excitement... while color guards diligently rehearsed their very important role. Despite the chilly weather, family members showed up with a ......
I’m looking at a postage stamp at the moment. Just a tiny bit of paper with some ink on one side and glue on the other. Pretty insignificant, you’d think. After all, the envelopes and packages it’s affixed to are often much more valuable, carrying contracts and paychecks, letters of remembrance and love and friendship, and all sorts of stuff. In the face of all this, that tiny stamp is hardly worth noticing. Or is it? After all, without that stamp, not much happens—the contracts and paychecks and letters and such never get to their intended receivers without that little ......
Guest post by Gold Award Girl Scout Emily C. When Emily earned her Girl Scout Cadette Special Agent badge in sixth grade, she knew that one day she would earn her Girl Scout Gold Award by helping the Bainbridge Police Department in renovating the safe room to feel more like a safe space. Emily shared with us why she chose to help the BPD and what her experience was like. About five years ago, as part of the requirements for earning the Special Agent badge, my troop visited the police station to learn how evidence is processed. The officer ......
