This BSA camp was one that was recommended to us by our readers. Scouts will thrive in the beautiful outdoor playground of Huntington Lake, California. Scouts spend quality time outside learning new skills and enjoying engaging outdoor adventures with new and old friends. Camp Kern is a place where Scouts experience a traditional summer camp life as Scouts have since 1939. Huntington Lake (elevation 7, 000 feet) is nestled in a remote part of California’s Sierra Nevada mountain range. It’s so remote, in fact, that no roads lead to the camp. Instead, troops travel aboard one of several daily barges ......

Cub Scouts love science! It is almost like magic to them. You can spark and interest in science with these ideas, achievements, and activities which are related to science. Use these ideas to promote STEM activities to the whole pack or add some spark to your den meetings. A Simple Explanation of the Scientific Method If you don't have a background in science, helping your Cub Scout out with this might seem a little intimidating. But the scientific method is really very basic and only involves a few simple concepts. ......

Learning how to lash together camp gadgets like dishwashing racks, cooking stations and dining fly poles is a fun — and useful — Scouting skill. But learning to tie these lashings at home, in a living room? That’s a recipe for broken lamps. (Sorry, Mom and Dad.) And while you could go outside, not everyone has the kind of backyard internet access you’d need to watch instructional videos about knot-tying. Thankfully, one Scouting volunteer invented a solution for teaching lashings using a device that fits on a kitchen table. “I came up with it after watching them fumble about with ......

________________________________________Hi Andy, I’m sure this has been asked before, but I just can’t find the answer… We’ve been told that a Scout can’t ask for a board of review until after he or she has been active in current rank for six months. So, if that six months starts on, let’s say April 20, is the six months completed at Midnight on October 19, or 12:00:01 a.m. on October 20? I’m asking because our son’s troop committee is telling us—per these hypothetical dates—that a Scout can’t even request a board of review until 12:00:01 a.m. on October 21st! We really ......

A little before the pandemic I told someone I will help a third grade kid earn his whittling chip. I endeavor to try and get the process started through a Zoom meeting. As I research the project, I can manage the teaching part as far as safety, and the other requirements. The project part not so much... any ideas on something safe without being right there with the kiddo? FWIW I got an official Boy Scout knife to the kiddo’s mom for him to use. He gets to keep the knife after earning the chip. Also, mom ......

My daughter (almost done with AoL) would like to do a den camping trip. What are the leader training requirements? I saw for a pack camping trip you need to have a BALOO trained person. Is that required for just a den camping trip? Trip would be for one night in our local city camp ground. I don’t have IOLT because it was canceled last fall due to low enrollment, and the spring one was canceled for obvious reasons. Other then that, I am fully SM and den leader trained. submitted by /u/akcoder ......

Hey! I am part of a Venturer Unit based in Melbourne, Australia, and we are looking to connect with another unit internationally over Zoom (or something of the sorts). Since we are all in lockdown, we thought it would be cool to meet new Venturers from other parts of the world, and discuss the differences in Scouting and each of our personal involvements. It would be a great opportunity to earn some badgework as well :) submitted by /u/fifitheflowertot [link] [comments]...
