InsaneScouters, hope you’re having a Wacky time with all your Scouting adventures. We truly appreciate everything you do for all the Scouts in your units. We know how much work it really is, and it is more like 1 hour per Scout! Yet with everything we are hard at work on with InsaneScouter, we could really use some more help. What follows are some broad areas you might be able to jump in and help us.
Blog - write columns for our blog. This could include topics we suggest, our followers provide details for via our google forms, or you come up with on your own that respect the Scout Law.
Data Entry - this mostly relates to copy and to paste content from powwow books (with permission) into our database.
HTML Cleanup - this is mostly going through old content and fixing any HTML problems, removing attributes no longer needed in favor of the main CSS formatting the text, etc
SEO - doing an audit of the site and walking us through any changes that may help us get more organic search traffic and rank higher in the search engines.
Marketing - helping us find free ways to gain more exposure, to more Scouters, so that we can ultimately impact more Scouts and help make Scouting even better around the world.
Sales / Leads - helping us contact and ultimately obtain more sponsors to help cover the month to month costs of running the site. This probably includes improving our process for finding, contacting, and pitching potential sponsors.
Email Design - we are looking to improve the way our newsletters look, but because of the limitations of email clients, we can not use bootstrap. Thus we are looking for someone who can help put together an email design that has a number of different content types that will work with most modern email clients.
VLog - we are trying to launch a video blog that will range between ramblings about scouting, cover more in-depth details about various scout skills, share many tips that would help leaders, and much more. We are looking for guests, as well as needing help editing and other technical aspects of the vlog.
Linux Admin - looking for someone who can help with routine server admin tasks such as running weekly updates, creating ssh keys, ensuring the server is secure, managing docker apps, advising us on anything server related, etc. We are running Debian on two VPS servers each have 4 CPU's, 4 Gb ram, and 100gb drive space.
Advisors - we have a secret group on Facebook made of only a few hand-selected Scouters who help advise on various business matters and decisions on what direction to take things with the site and newsletters. Usually, I just post a few messages in there, maybe once a month, and over the next day or two, everyone replies.
If you are interested and willing to volunteer in any of the above ways, or you have other skills you think may be useful to us. Please fill out this google form and let us know https://forms.gle/h86Q1VgTbqkygXS18

Cheran is a member of Troop 2000 in Johns Creek, Georgia and a junior at Chattahoochee High School. To Cheran and his friends, Scouting was a haven, a place where they could play games and have fun, but also space where they could learn valuable skills and lessons that would stay with them for the rest of their lives. His greatest test of these lessons was his Eagle Scout project. When it came time for him to do his project, he knew that he wanted to do something that would help the world ......

Dr. Gloria Dean Randle Scott, the first Black national president of Girl Scouts of the USA, reading with Girl Scouts from different troops. You’ve probably heard of Black Girl Magic. But if you’re wondering what exactly it is, it’s a celebration of the strength, originality, beauty, and resilience of Black girls and women everywhere. And since February is Black History month, there’s no better time than the present to celebrate the Black Girl Magic that’s shaped the Girl Scout Movement. While we wish we could document all of the myriad contributions of Black girls and women, here we look back ......
The classic holiday tune “O Christmas Tree” calls those branches “lovely.” But one Scouts BSA troop has another description for those leafy holiday evergreens: instrumental in the effort to stabilize and grow sand dunes on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Troop 117 of Kitty Hawk, N.C., (Tidewater Council) has found an innovative way to serve the community, conserve the environment and raise money for troop adventures — all at the same time. Here’s how it works. Unwrapping an idea Every January, the Scouts pick up Christmas trees from the community at no charge to the tree’s owner. The ......
The first rule of Pack 1855’s Hiking Club: Don’t forget the snacks. But a few months after launching their new plan to take a hike every month, Pack 1855 leaders realized something amazing. They saw their Cub Scouts weren’t begging for the next snack break. They were hungry for the next hike. The leaders discovered that Cub Scout hiking — if you keep it simple and make it fun — can put your pack on a trail to success. In Pack 1855, it’s working. For the second year in a row, the pack from Elgin, Ill., (Three Fires Council) has achieved ......

FTE 2020 is coming up in August. But what makes FTE so important, anyway? Podcast Topics Ken is joined by Josee Francis to discuss the Family Training Event (FTE), a camp put on by Scouts Canada’s Northern Lights and Chinook Councils every August. The discussion begins with a bit of a debrief about FTE 2019, which was Harry Potter-themed, but quickly verges into the topic of the Telus World of Science’s new Nature Exchange program. This, in turn, pivots into a discussion about how to build youth engagement within Scouting, and how to encourage youth to take Scouting beyond their weekly Colony/Pack/Troop ......
This month, let’s talk about Cultivating New Leaders, also called Succession Planning: Having the right person in place to take over if, for whatever reason, a scoutmaster, assistant scoutmaster or committee member needs to bow out of his or her commitment. There’s a little more to it than just having the first available warm body fill the vacant slot. You need to find the right person. And we have the right person to help us figure out how to do that – Donna Ragusa, the SBSA National Committee-Recruitment and Retention Task Force Chair. TRANSCRIPT The post February 2020 – Cultivating ......
So, many of you have probably, hopefully, heard about Scoutbook – the online tool designed to make your Scouting Leadership duties a lot easier. But we found out, although I can’t reveal our source, that some of you out there are not taking advantage of everything Scoutbook has to offer. So, we invited assistant Den Leader Michaela Monson with Pack 192 of the Longhorn Council in Fort Worth, Texas. Michaela is also the project manager for the development of Scoutbook. And we’re here to share with you all the reasons why YOU should be using Scoutbook. TRANSCRIPT The post February ......
To have an effective team, you need an empowered team. Podcast Topics Ken is joined by Josee Francis to discuss...well, people, really. The discussion begins with a bit of a debrief about FTE 2019, which was Harry Potter-themed, but quickly verges into the topic of the Telus World of Science’s new Nature Exchange program. This, in turn, pivots into a discussion about how to build youth engagement within Scouting, and how to encourage youth to take Scouting beyond their weekly Colony/Pack/Troop gatherings. At some point, the discussion does turn toward the importance of fostering and growing the skills of the adult volunteers ......
