Greeting Scouters,
Sorry for the intrusion with this mini commercial. As you might know, it takes a lot of time and some cash to keep InsaneScouter going month after month. This is totally optional, the website and our newsletter will remain free. We are also looking for volunteers. If you can spare a few extra hours a month or a few bucks, we would really appreciate it!
Â
I am looking for volunteers in two different areas.
A PHP coder who has experience working with elasticsearch. I have a script that allows me to search the content on InsaneScouter and add the content item to a queue to be used in newsletters or shared to social media. This script needs some work done, fix it so what it brings back from elastic search better matches the search string and move the existing code to the current beta version of the code. I am guessing it will take 5 - 10 hours for an experienced PHP core developer.
I am also looking for someone who is willing to get on a Zoom call with me to look at different parts of the site and provide recommendations to improve our onsite SEO. I am thinking the zoom call will last maybe two hours.
If interested in either of these roles or if you're interested in volunteering but in some other way, please fill out this google form and ill get back to you.

As a Knapsacker you will get access to our filing cabinet, which is loaded with ideas & resources that will save you time (it took me years to collect all of this) and the ideas you find will help you run more amazing activities.
Additionally, starting in November we will be sending out a new free newsletter based on a single theme and full of ideas from crafts to games, to ceremonies and scoutmaster minutes, not to mention everything in between. We will also start providing activity plans for each week in the month, plus a campout. Which will provide creative ideas for den meetings, troop meetings, and campouts. The newsletter will be free for all, but the activity plans will be exclusive to Knapsacker's.
Don't wait, the great price of $4 a month or $36 a year, will be going up to $48 a year soon. You can learn more and signup at https://insanescouter.org/p/5875/0/Knapsack.html

Thank You!
Yours in Wacky Scouting

Image by Thomas B. from Pixabay I remember when I was in Cub Scouts and Webelos, and we always had our Pack meetings in the gym of my elementary school. That usually worked out well, especially when there would be some physical activity that was a part of the Pack meeting, like Dodgeball (yup, that’s how old I am). According to Wikipedia, a gymnasium, also known as a gym, is a covered location for athletics. The word is derived from the ancient Greek gymnasium. ... The word gym is also slang for a fitness center, which is often an area for indoor recreation. Scouting ......

In 1846, more than 500 soldiers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began a 1, 900-mile march from Iowa to California to help West Coast troops during the Mexican-American War. Along the way, they cooked cakes on glowing coals, tussled with “jumping†cholla cactuses, and trekked across rugged deserts. The regiment’s journey has been called “the greatest march of infantry in the history of the U.S. Army.†The trail they forged crosses more than half the country. Today, you can hike some of that same trail and have some of those same experiences. As a bonus, you ......

As the oldest of five children, Olivia Jennings was the natural pick for a family babysitter. But when her mom died suddenly in 2014, Olivia took on unexpected additional roles. She became a teacher, peacemaker, and occasional chef for her three younger brothers and one younger sister. She was just 11 years old. As she helped her dad raise a family, Olivia learned what it takes to lead others — to put other people’s needs ahead of her own. In sorrow, she found strength. Five years later, she found Scouting. Although, in a way, Scouting had been there all along. Olivia ......

Any ideas for some COVID-19 friendly community service? Things we have done in the past (caroling at the nursing home, door-to-door collections, etc.) probably are out this year. I found a neat website called "Color A Smile" we may do for some of the younger dens. But I have AoL's this year and that seems a little bit light on effort for them. Thoughts? submitted by /u/yddeyma [link] [comments]...
