Hey Scouters, let's do something a bit different this week. It's challenge time! Feel free to tweak this as you see fit for your own unit. For example, instead of a committee member, maybe it should be an SPL, ASPL, Troop Guide, JASM, etc.
1. Only Patrol Members with brown eyes may speak.
2. Have each Patrol member obtain a piece of paper and a pen or pencil.
3. Have each Patrol member, working alone, draw as many official map symbols
as possible in one minute.
4. Have the Patrol compile as many different map symbols as possible, from each
Patrol members papers, in 1 minute.
5. Have the Patrol draw a map of a fictional kingdom, using only the map
symbols your patrol has compiled and present/explain it to any Troop
Committee member.
You can follow up on the challenge with a reflection asking the Scouts how it felt that only those with brown eyes could talk? Do they think that might be similar to how those of different skin colors or religions might feel sometimes? How many map symbols were they able to remember and draw? What might the rules of their fictional kingdom be? Would it be fair if that kingdom had a rule that only those with blue eyes would-be leaders?

Hey there! I'm a German Scout and as you can imagine Covid is preventing regular troop meetings and the like over here. Now, offering live online activities for Scouts is relatively straightforward, but trying to do the same thing for Wolf Cubs often doesn't work as well (imo): you might need adult supervision for things to run smoothly. We've been offering activities such as recording bedtime stories, providing puzzles and crafting challenges for kids to work on at home, but I'm always looking for new ideas to make things less boring.
