CAMPFIRE LIGHTING OPENING CEREMONY
Have the wood and crumpled newspaper for a campfire
ready. Each person brings in a lighted candle, says
their part then stands until all the candles are standing
around the campfire then they all reach down together
and light it.
#1 I am light. As I am added to the campfire, my flame
allows us to see new chances to be helpful to others.
#2 I am friendship. My flame teaches us how to
become a friend to other people
#3 I am restraint. My flame reflects off the stones that
surround the campfire, thus keeping the fire in check.
When I am added to the campfire we learn to keep our tempers and tongues in check.
#4 I am the rising smoke. As I rise from our campfire our eyes turn skyward as we envision
God.
#5 I am love. My flame makes the campfire burn brighter and lovelier. Love grows toward
parents and families when it is returned, and it makes our own lives more joyful.
#6 I am fun. My flame jumps and leaps with sheer pleasure. When I am added to the campfire
we see that most good things in a life well lived are fun.
#7 I am the Scout Spirit. My spirit is the brotherhood of Scouting all over the world who are
preparing themselves to become good citizens who are physically fit, mentally awake, morally
straight.
CM: Now we will light the campfire [all put candles into fire which lights]. We have learned
things that make our Pack Meeting more meaningful.
“SCOUTING IS” CLOSING OR OPENING CEREMONY
Scouting is a sea of blue, and gold or green and tan uniforms.
Scouting is shirt full of patches
Scouting is a new tie slide that you have made
Scouting is sleeping under the stars
Scouting is putting the worm on the fishhook by yourself
Scouting is a hike in the mountains or around the block
Scouting is learning a new game
Scouting is leaders willing to give time, money and hearts
Scouting is pledging allegiance and feeling your heart swell for
love for your country
Scouting is all of these and more. Let’s hope Scouting last for
many years more.
