PERSONNEL: Narrator, four adult leaders (one from each rank)
EQUIPMENT: Four large candles or flashlights.
ARRANGEMENT: Two leaders on each side of the narrator with candles or
flashlights--house lights dimmed.
NARRATOR: Before we set sail tonight, let this be our beacon to follow. Pause...
. . (Bobcat leader lights a candle.) Every Cub Scout should accomplish something
worthwhile each day. Each day’s accomplishments should be a little better than
the day before.
Pause.... (Wolf leader lights candle.) Stand by a window with your room dark,
look out into the night, and ask yourself this simple question: Have I done my
best today?
Pause.. . . (Bear leader lights a candle.) Then each day, vow to do better than the
day before. If all of us do that and keep our promises, we will have the Best Cub
Scout pack in the country.
Pause.... (Webelos leader lights candle.) Before we close, I want to ask you a
question. Answer it silently to yourselves. Have you done your best today?
(Leaders with candles start to move out.) As we go home tonight let the beacon
remind us of the Spirit of Scouting, and that we should always follow Akela.
Goodnight Scouts!
