Each scout needs a staff 5 to 7 feet long. Form a circle with the sticks held vertical inside, one end on the ground. One scout is chosen as the caller. The caller loudly and clearly calls out "ready left" or "ready right". Each scout leaves their stick standing and moves to the left or right. Occasionally the caller calls out "ready back" to spread the circle out. If a stick falls to the ground the person responsible leaves the circle. The last scout in the circle becomes the caller for the next round. There is no need to be tricky with calls, let people make their own mistakes.
