We would like to feature a Scout or Scouter every month who demonstrates an amazing Scout Spirit. This could come in many flavors, maybe their dedication to Scouting and everything they do for local scouting. Maybe they did an excellent good deed for someone, or saved someone's life, or put on a great activity, etc. Whatever it is they did, please let us know about them, and we will feature one amazing scout or scouter every month on our blog. Let us know by filling out this form https://forms.gle/wRHjZf43LP8mZafx5

With that said, may we kindly ask that you help support InsaneScouter, to preserve our chain of fantastic resources? By request of many, we now offer patreon.com/insanescouter

I had a chance to go to Isle Royal National Park during the summer of 2008. My youngest son and I had a few days off and decided we would spend a day touring the island. We boarded the Isle Royale Queen IV, which was a 100-foot long ship that would take us 56 miles across Lake Superior. The trip was supposed to take three and ½ hours, but a storm had blown across the lake the night before our boat ride, and there were still six-foot waves on the big lake. Needless to say, I had never been on ......

Screen capture from BSA advancement website Jim wrote to me a while back and asked:"I understand that there are certain positions Boy Scouts must hold in order to earn the higher ranks.  In a large Troop like ours, we run out of those positions rather quickly.  I see in the book whereby the Scoutmaster can assign a project to a kid to do instead of holding a position.  Isn't that against the "service project" rules or something?  Have you used this "position, " and how did it turn out?"Rudy piped in and asked me: "In doing one of these special projects, ......

Image by Thomas B. from Pixabay I remember when I was in Cub Scouts and Webelos, and we always had our Pack meetings in the gym of my elementary school. That usually worked out well, especially when there would be some physical activity that was a part of the Pack meeting, like Dodgeball (yup, that’s how old I am). According to Wikipedia, a gymnasium, also known as a gym, is a covered location for athletics. The word is derived from the ancient Greek gymnasium. ... The word gym is also slang for a fitness center, which is often an area for indoor recreation. Scouting ......

I have fond memories of biking parts of this trail on more than one occasion. The Little Miami Scenic Trail is a lot of fun to use. The trail stretches from the suburbs of Cincinnati to Springfield, Ohio, over bridges and through peaceful state parks and several small towns. According to https://www.traillink.com/trail/little-miami-scenic-trail/, the path is part of an extensive sequence of greater than 340 miles of off-road trails that pass through throughout Ohio’s Miami Valley. It is also a significant section of cross-state Ohio to Erie Trail, which takes you from the Ohio River in Cincinnati to Lake Erie in Cleveland ......

These drums are the perfect way to celebrate and learn about African heritage.  We based these drums on the Djembe drums from West Africa.  Djembe drums originated during the reign of the Malian empire in the 12th century.  These drums were traditionally made by blacksmiths and played by well-respected musicians known as griots.  They play an important part in storytelling and the passing down of the oral history of west Africa.  The base is made from a single piece of wood and the drum top is made from animal skin.  It is tuned using ropes and is played with hands ......

Admit it: you, like several million other Americans and me, are sometimes daydreaming about winning the lottery game of chance, with its potential first-place winnings of.... 1 BILLION DOLLARS! (you have to say...or think several million other Americans and me ONE (pause) BILLION (pause) DOLLARS! )That's an awful large amount of money. So let's put this into context. No, I am not going to tell you that your or my chances of winning this large amount of cash are further away from being struck by lightning several times or hitting the center of a target several times unaided from a ......

December 24, 1992, Southern California. Early evening. My 12-year-old Scout son and I are hunting for a tree. It’s been a difficult year. I’ve done my best to keep a bright face. Fact is, I’m pretty much in survival mode. I’d become a single parent this year. My business had imploded, the result of a string of legal sessions and court hearings. A painful divorce has already taken a huge emotional and financial toll—and it’s not over yet. I’ve moved to a new part of town so my son can get to school on his own. But my sole credit ......

Pre Covid, 4 boys from Troop 87 went to Putnam Farms in Danvers, which is a senior living center, and put on a Hannukah service for the residents. Troop 306 for Teens For the 8th year in a row, Troop 306 Arlington partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families to run a holiday drive benefitting local teens in need. Cameron Welch and his son, Zane, a 12-year-old Tenderfoot Scout with Troop 772 of The Woodlands, Texas, were heading home from a troop meeting on an evening in October. On a dark stretch of road near their neighborhood, they spotted a man walking in the ditch. Then, they saw the parked car — hazard lights flashing — and a woman standing by it along with children inside. “It looked like they really needed help; it looked like something was wrong, ” Zane told NBC Channel 2 of Houston. The father and son pulled over and asked the woman if the ......
