Wacky Scouters, guess what its time for another silly challenge. As always, feel free to tweak it to fit your needs.

1. Patrol members must continuously clap their hands during this entire challenge.

2. Have the Patrol form an 8-foot circle.

3. The judge will toss a ball to the Patrol Leader.

4. The Patrol must keep the ball in the air for 1 minute, using only their right feet.

5. Then the Patrol must keep the ball in the air for another 1 minute, using only

their left feet. The judge will tell the Patrol when to change feet.

Feel free to follow up with a reflection, maybe ask: What was it like trying to hear and follow instructions while clapping? What could you have done differently? Why was it so hard to keep the ball in the air for 1 minute? Did you have fun?

We do not receive funding from anywhere except our few sponsors and our users. If you would like to help check out https://insanescouter.org/p/5875/0/Support+Us.html

For Sydney and Dylan Yee, the dream was always the same: to appear on American Ninja Warrior Junior, the kids’ version of the popular American Ninja Warrior TV show, on which athletes race on an obstacle course with the goal of pushing the buzzer as they cross the finish line. When their dreams finally came true earlier this year, they enjoyed every minute of it. For months, the brother and sister team wasn’t allowed to talk about how far they advanced. Now that their episodes have aired (you can stream them on NBC Universal’s Peacock app or website), Sydney, from Troop 7332, and Dylan, a member of Troop 332, both in Columbus, Ohio, can finally share what it was like. “I was super, super excited, ” says Dylan. “It was my dream. We put in a lot of hard work to get in.” (One important note: Ninja Warrior-type activities and ......

Table of Contents What Is Respect? Ideas to Help Kids Understand Related Resources More Pack Meetings Respect Ceremony for Cub Scouts How to Earn Respect as a Leader What Is Respect? Talking about respect with Cub Scouts will help them understand the Scout Law points of “courteous” and “reverent”. The Cub Scout program helps give this explanation:  Showing regard for the worth of someone or something. Through interacting with pack families, Cub Scouts will develop appreciation and respect for different families and traditions. Through pack service projects, they will learn to treat the environment with care.” Ideas to Help Kids Understand So that gives us some general ideas. If you look closely through the January 1970 issue of Boys’ Life (now Scout Life) magazine, you’ll find something pretty remarkable. We’re not talking about the cover story, though we have to admit, that one, about a California high school basketball team that won 57 games in row, is a pretty fascinating piece. (The streak would eventually get to 66 games, by the way.) Nor are we talking about the story titled “89, 000, 000 Jobs — Which One Do You Want?” (Though that certainly would have been extremely helpful to young readers — then and now.) Look closer. At the bottom of page 75, you’ll find the BL debut of “Gus, ” the beloved cartoon dog illustrated by Orlando Busino. The first “Gus” cartoonBusino, already an accomplished artist at the time, still contributes “Gus” cartoons to Scout Life to this day. The artist turned 95 earlier this year and ......

In 2020, being productive in Scouting had its challenges for many units. But Scouts from Troop 3310 of Cliftondale United Methodist Church took their newfound time as a blessing and doubled their efforts on their path to Eagle. On June 6th, 2021, Troop 3310 proudly celebrated seven of their founding members for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Advancing seven Scouts to Eagle during a year of limited access and remote Scouting is truly an accomplishment for these young men, and serves as a testament to the strength of their troop and leadership. Korey Washington, Troop 3310’s Scoutmaster and founder, expressed his elation at their achievements. “I get the most joy remembering these young men 8-12 years ago, on their first wide-eyed Cub Scout meeting, looking around for friendship and camaraderie, to our last campfire together on the eve of their Eagle Scout ceremony. It rings differently because they all went ......

Imagine you’re a parent in a family with no Scouting experience. You see a flier for the local pack, inviting anyone who’s interested to visit their next pack meeting on Monday night. Fun — and snacks! — are on the agenda. When you show up, everyone is in uniform. You see lots of adults in tan shirts, assuming most are paid professionals. You think, “wow, there’s a lot of staff here tonight.” Everyone knows exactly what to say and the right way to raise two fingers aloft in what you later learn is called “the Cub Scout sign.” The meeting looks fun, but you can’t help but feel a little overwhelmed by it all. That’s when someone hands you a registration form. Ashley Steigerwald spends a lot of time thinking about moments like these. As a Scouting mom, Cub Scout leader and communications chair of the Scouts BSA committee, she ......

Pat Baldwin’s flag-flying hobby started in a pretty standard way: with the 50 stars and 13 stripes of Old Glory flowing in the breeze on the left side of his garage door. Then one day — May 2, to be exact — Baldwin added a flag to the right side of his garage door. It was the white-and-red flag of Poland, flown to help Baldwin’s Polish neighbors celebrate Polish National Flag Day. Soon after that, Baldwin added a Mexican flag into the mix. Then China, South Korea, Israel, Latvia, India, Haiti and Croatia followed. On Persian New Year, which also happened to be Baldwin’s youngest son’s birthday, Baldwin surprised his Azerbaijani neighbor by flying the blue, red and green flag of the mountainous west Asian nation. “When my neighbor from Azerbaijan walked up to the party, she was thrilled to see the flag, ” Baldwin says. “Everyone started asking her about ......

Table of Contents Getting More Scouts Involved in Grocery Shopping Related Resources Help for Grubmasters Favorite Recipes for Scouts and Camping How to Store Food Properly in the Backcountry Getting More Scouts Involved in Grocery Shopping It’s always tough to get a new batch of scouts acclimated to the program. Grubmaster duty is one of the hardest things to convince the scouts and parents that they can do. Until recently, our patrol leaders just asked for volunteers to do the grocery shopping for their patrols for each outing. The result was that the same scouts were being grubmaster over and over. So the Committee recommended that the patrol leaders try to convince some of the other scouts to take a turn. The only problem is that ......

At the Middle Tennessee Council’s Boxwell Reservation, Scouts learn to shoot a bow and arrow, swim, and survive in the wilderness. Starting next summer,  thanks to some generous donors and forward-thinking Scouters, they’ll also learn to fix a leaky faucet, paint a house and change a car’s oil. Those essential life lessons will be delivered inside a new skilled trades center, set to open in time for summer camp in 2022. The facility will offer Scouts a safe, interactive way to experience skilled trades like welding, plumbing, electrical work, painting and automotive maintenance — and to earn a merit badge while doing it. “In today’s environment, youth are taught that the only way to a successful career is by receiving a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college, ” says Jason Flannery, the council’s camping director and the man who dreamed up this project years ago. “While that is true for many young ......

It's not very often that you get the top item on your needs list in the Boy Scout memorabilia collection hobby! I really started focusing on organizing my Order of the Arrow flap collection in the last year. During that time I was able to get some key needs and got things down to about 10 key needs. Now I've created my own rules for this collection that leaves out some of the really tough lodges. For example a few issued only an odd shape or maybe a neckerchief. For my collection the rule was I was collecting flaps. So if an OA lodge made a flap then it was on my checklist. I’m fearing that I’m running out of time. My birthday is in late January and I’m still in my project but I am going to be finished within December. I can get a scout masters conference fairly quick. But the issue is the board of review. How long do you guys think it will take for me to schedule a board of review and go into it. That is the only scary thing because I don’t know how long it will take to schedule it with council and complete it. submitted by /u/ScottyKat1000 [link] [comments]...
