________________________________________Hi Andy, My son has started his first year in Scouts. So far, four troop meetings have gone by and no requirements have been done yet for being a Scout in the troop. When he asked about doing merit badges—he had picked three pretty easy ones to start himself off with—he was told not to do those on his own because the whole troop does them in merit badge classes in troop meetings or he can do them when he gets to summer camp. Then we found out that two of the three aren’t offered at Scout camp. So I ......

From the community-shaking feats of Eagle Scouts to the creativity of Cub Scouts, any parent or volunteer who’s seen Scouts in action will tell you: Never underestimate them. The same is true when you marvel at the designs and speed of the Pinewood Derby creations cropping up all over your social media feeds this time of year. Yes, they’re sleek. Sure, they’re intricate. And, of course, moms and dads are helping their Cub Scouts by manning the tools their kids are too young to handle (because that’s safe, and family bonding is the whole point). But don’t get it twisted: ......

Support from the worldwide community of Scouting, including members of the BSA, has been an “enormous comfort” to members of Scouts Australia as the country grapples with the bushfire crisis. “At times like this, Scouts demonstrate that we can come together to help each other no matter where we are from, ” says Phil Harrison, Chief Commissioner of Scouts Australia. Last month, we shared one way you can help members of Scouts Australia who lost everything in the fires. Today, I’m learning from Christina Gretton, national manager of communications for Scouts Australia, that the country has sold 90, 000 bushfire ......

Note: This is the 31st in an occasional series where I share the Eagle Scout project before-and-after photos. See the complete collection here and submit your own here. To fully understand the impact Eagle Scout projects have on communities, you need to see to believe. That’s why I asked to see Eagle Scout project before-and-after photos — the same photos prospective Eagles are asked to include with their post-project report. The latest batch of 20 projects — featuring Scouts from 20 different states — includes a rock climbing wall for kids, a horse-washing station and an outdoor food prep area to help a church feed the homeless. What’s great ......

Hey guys, Little background. I did cubs outs for two years as a kid and didn't get back into it when we moved across the country. Last year we got my son in and I became the Lion Den leader. This year I'm the Tiger Den Leader. I recently (this month) became the Cubmaster. I've begun reading about it and doing some research. I wanted to see if you had some general advice that I may not come across in books. I know there are a few personalities that I'll likely need to mediate as best I can within our pack. ......

So our Bears will be Webelos in a few short months, and I hope to have my Baloo training by the. We have two Bear Dens, one girl and one boy. My son is in the Boys den but I'm DL of the girl's den. Both dens meet together though each has its own leaders (asst den leader of girls den is a mom), but I'm curious how camping will work when we're Webelos. I'd love to hear from current Webelos or AOL DL's on how this works, especially for those with boys and girls. Thanks. ......

Hello. My son is in his first year of cub scouts. We competed in the pinewood derby, and My son won every race except one, which he lost by a nose. I have videos of this. My son, however, came in third overall. When I asked why this was, we were told it was based on times. Well, the times were obviously off, as other parents commented on the same thing. They ranged anywhere from 4-9 seconds for the same cars. The person that got first didn’t even win any races I am aware of. Now, I am not ......
