With all the craziness going on in the world, is there something small, anything we can do as Scouters to help Scouting stay strong and grow? What is it that Scouts are looking for from Scouts? Friends, social time, outdoor adventure, to have fun, or maybe, to sit around a campfire having smores and telling crazy ghost stories?

There are so many things they look for and desire, but are we giving it to them? What can we do to make Scouting more fun and exciting? How can we encourage our young leaders to put on a stronger and more amazing program? Do you let them fall down and get back up bit battered but proud to try again?

All Scouting is local, and thus the answer to this question will be different not only by where you are located but also the leaders and youth in your units. We should take the time to reflect on how Scouting is different for everyone everywhere. At the same time have a common framework for us to work within that allows us to bring a lot of joy, adventure, and so many other things to them, even if only impacts one scout or many.

As you start to ponder my words, maybe you can find it in your heart to also support InsaneScouter by checking out what Knapsack has to offer. https://insanescouter.org/p/5875/0/Knapsack.html

Image by Van Huy Bui from Pixabay Do you wonder what Cub’struction is? Basically, it's having cub scouts construct something--anything--out of everyday household items. Here are five really cool projects you can do with your Scouts, whether you’re at home or attending a den meeting. All five of these cub’structions can be made from things that almost all of us have in common use around the house. We will start by making a hat out of a newspaper. Here is a video to help you make the hat. How about making a telephone out of some string and two plastic cups? Watch the ......

Image by fancycrave1 from PixabayLeave No Trace Campfire? The Boy Scouts of America set a goal to instill the right values in the boys who belong to the organization. While the "Leave No Trace" principle sounds like it doesn't matter, you have to look at the combined effects of millions of people and the negative effects it can have on the environment. When even one person litters, they contribute to a dirty and more polluted environment. Having a poorly located campfire or a campsite as only one person might have little impact, but when you have thousands who toss trash and ......

When we were children, we all wondered and thought about what we might be when we grew up. Sometimes, young children might say that they want to be singers or actors, models, or pop-stars. Some will say that they want to become firefighters, electricians, or police officers. Others want to be engineers or archeologists or doctors. When I was in elementary school, I had pretty much decided that I wanted to be a teacher. By the time of my sophomore year in high school, I had refined my growing up the idea to say that I wanted to be a history ......

Walton family archive Do you want to be "known"? Do you want a lover? You want people to see you on the street and know who you are??You don't need to shoot, maim, nor kill anyone. You don't need to go onto Facebook or Snapchat, Twitter, or any other social medium and belittle someone or call someone out. You don't need to wreck your or your parent's vehicle, van, or truck. You don't need to steal or rob someone's money or other personal possession. You don't need to place yourself into a coma by taking "mass quantities" of some liquor or bottles of pills.  Do you want to know ......

Sometimes a simple suggestion is all it takes. When Troop 378 Senior Patrol Leader Enzo Ishihara’s leaders told him about an opportunity to construct and distribute 3D-printed face shields for first responders and essential workers in Torrance, Calif., “we could see his face light up, ” remembers Assistant Scoutmaster Brian Sanderson. ”He was ‘all in’ with fundraising, donating, assembling, and distributing the shields to those that needed them in our community, ” Sanderson says. “Enzo took the proposal to the [patrol leaders’ council] for a vote, and we were off and running.” Running like an efficient, Scout-led machine. The Scouts raised ......

Ask five Eagle Scouts what they’ll take from their Scouting experience, and you’ll get five uniquely inspiring answers: Overcoming hailstorms and wrong turns at Philmont to discover the “unyielding bonds of friendship.” A Cycling merit badge experience that led to a lifelong love of the sport and even a job. Backpacking trips with “staggeringly beautiful” views. A Scoutmaster who “put me in a position to succeed and, most importantly, made Scouting fun.” A fear of swimming conquered after years of struggling. What I find fascinating is that those answers were shared by five Eagle Scouts from the same ......

Have a question? Facing a dilemma? Wondering where to find a BSA policy or guideline? Just drop a line to me at askandybsa@yahoo.com. Dear Andy, We have a Scout who completed all the work for the Game Design merit badge over the course of a year and a half. His counselor was a teacher by profession, who ran a session at a neighboring council’s merit badge “university” and then followed up with Scouts interested in completing it. Unfortunately, despite multiple attempts on our part, this teacher can’t be reached to verify that all requirements were completed. My own council has ......

I have to question the sanity of BSA troupes and scout parents because a neighbor boy scout was just at my door selling popcorn. I have to question the validity of his wilderness survival merit badge selling face to face to as many strangers as he can canvas. Why would any organization put financial endeavors above his welfare or that of everyone he encounters? Does BSA support science denial? submitted by /u/never-armadillo [link] [comments]...

I'm from Singapore, and I was a scout in high school. It was heavily regimented. We were forced to do foot drills, learn military commands and formations, and camps were organized like military training. The smallest mistakes were punished with push-ups and other physical punishments, and in every camp, we were forced to perform group punishments like rolling in the mud and putting on each other's sweaty unwashed shirts. Hikes were organized like route marches. We walked dozens of kilometers with heavy backpacks till our feet hurt and we couldn't walk anymore. Needless to say, I absolutely hated it. ......
