The Boy Scouts of America today announced a voluntary recall of Cub Scout Outdoor Activity pins that depict a gold animal paw painted on a blue background sold between April 2016 and January 2020. The pins were sold at local Scout Shops, authorized BSA distributors and online at scoutshop.org. About 78, 000 pins are affected although about 12% of the affected units are in inventory and have never been sold or distributed. No injuries have been reported as a result of the affected pins, and the BSA has identified and fixed the problem that led to the recall. The recall was ......

________________________________________Dear Andy, Unlike other Scouts in his troop, my son (let’s call him “David”) decided to complete his Eagle Service Project before taking care of other requirements like merit badges, tenure-in-position, and so forth. His project was a success and his merit badges came along just fine, but tenure-in-position has become a problem and we don’t know where to turn. David really wanted to complete his tenure-in-position as Senior Patrol Leader and was willing to wait till the next semi-annual election came around, this past January. He was chosen by his fellow Scouts to be their next SPL and his ......

Payment Options – Effective July 1st, National is no longer offering the option of paying for the online registrations at the Council Service Center.  All payments will be made online at the time the parent or guardian submits the online registration.   Adult Registrations – Effective July 1st, Adult volunteers can’t register via the online system.  Because of the Massachusetts CORI background check, we need to process and approve the adult applications locally.  We apologize for the inconvenience of not being able to do this online.  However, all adult registration paperwork may be scanned and emailed ......

On my wall in the office I have all of the Dixie patches going back to 1947 when it was called Area Z.  Since 1947 many lodges have come and gone from our section with all the realignments.  Only 4 lodges have remained the core group during that time and my home lodge Santee 116 is one of them. It’s been a source of pride that since 1952 we have had the most recognizable (and maybe even successful) conclave in the nation. It can be unsettling to come across a snake on a campout, especially a venomous one. Snakebites present a potential danger — about 8, 000 people in the U.S. are bitten by pit vipers and coral snakes every year, while another 37, 000 are bitten by nonvenomous snakes. Deaths are extremely rare, but it’s still best to take steps to avoid a painful bite. The only states without native venomous snakes are Alaska, Rhode Island, Maine and Hawaii. HOW TO PREVENT SNAKE BITES: • Snakes tend to slither away from people, striking when cornered or surprised. If you find one, ......

Try this one-question test when assessing an Eagle Scout project idea: Does it come from the heart? In my experience, Scouts who answer yes stay motivated throughout the demanding process of planning, developing and giving leadership to others as they uplift their community in a meaningful way. Tanner Hyde’s Eagle project fits that test perfectly. His idea, which began with a simple desire to help his sisters fish, blossomed into a kindhearted gesture that helps an entire city. Two years ago, Tanner and his family were enjoying a day at LaPrele Park in Laramie, Wyo. Tanner knew the fishing on ......

I need help with this. We have three AoL scouts who have transitioned to a troop (2 separate troops actually). The parents want a crossover ceremony for these scouts and we the leaders believe that we need to do something to recognize their achievement. Obviously the coronavirus presents a bit of a challenge to do this ceremony safely. We'll need to hold the ceremony outdoors and mask up everyone to minimize risk of transmission. But beyond that, I'm not entirely certain how this ceremony works. Neither the cubmaster not I have presided over a crossover ceremony. He may have ......

Ok, question here. Not sure if my other pack people are on here but if they are I am sure they will recognize the info. Here is hoping I don’t get into trouble. My scout participated in the 1, 000, 000 pieces of trash initiative to complete the requirements for messenger of peace. This seemed like an awesome opportunity as it was simple, designed with social distance in mind, and my scout is very environmentally minded. We did several hours of pick up at two different locations. We completed the forms on the website for the project. I ......

Craig and his scouts have been featured in a documentary series called America's Unsung Heroes - currently on YouTube and soon to be on PBS. So a couple of friends and I were talking and one of them had an idea for a for a new merit badge. He said, "What if there was a merit badge like Collections, except for random skills instead of random collections?" We all thought it'd be a great idea so we pitched it to our SM, he said "Sounds great, what's it called?" And we had no idea what to call it, so before we try to suggest it to people higher up or make it into a spoof merit badge like underwater basket weaving, what would you call ......
