Camp Laramie Peak

This BSA camp was one that was recommended to us by our readers. Some of the pictures shown on this web page were also sent in from one of our viewers. Camp Laramie Peak is the 7th oldest Boy Scout Camp in America. Camp Laramie Peak is located on a working ranch. The scenery is amazing and you might get to drive through a herd of buffalo. In 2020, CLP is 100 years old. It has been through many disasters and has come out being a wonderful camp. Despite the age, the camp is up to date. From family-style dining to a wide variety of program options, Camp Laramie Peak will meet the needs of any Scout from first-year campers to seasoned members of your troop. Out of all Longs Peak council camps, CLP is my favorite. It is small, intimate, provides a trail to first-class options as well as a high adventure - zip lines, mountain biking, horses, climbing, mountain boarding. I have been there for many summer camps, and my ordeal, brotherhood, and vigil was done there.

The camp’s website is https://longspeakbsa.org/programs/camps-camping/camp-laramie-peak/. The address for the camp is 65 Forest Service Road #633 Wheatland, WY 82201. Camp Laramie Peak can be gotten to by following this map: https://goo.gl/maps/hkathJmZQhyJkYK18.

This camp is about two hours Southeast of Casper, Wyoming. The camp’s GPS coordinates are 42.3316665N,-105.3410296W.

Summertime temperatures make it into the low 80’s by day and fall into the upper 50’s overnight. Scouts are housed in canvas tents on wooden platforms.  Most meals, if not all, will be prepared by the food service staff in the dining hall.

With a limit of 150 Scouts per session, Camp Laramie Peak’s small size allows for scouts to receive individual attention. The program is modified every session to meet the needs of the campers that week, which is impossible to do at larger camps. This allows for a unique first-year program where the Scout can work on the next rank, rather than all of them. A full range of Eagle-required outdoor merit badges is available as well. The ATV safety course, rock climbing, or a four-night backpacking trek in the Medicine Bow National Forest are available for older Scouts. Camp Laramie Peak offers a full range of shooting sports from archery to pistols and a wide range of nature badges are offered in the nature center high above the natural plains of Wyoming. Camp Laramie Peak also features a Living History area which offers metalworking, branding, historic stories, and a fresh look at historic western life.

Camp Fee for the camp is $385 per Scout. $100 is due at camp registration and the balance is due before June 1st of a year. Fees paid after June 1st will incur a $25 per person late fee.
