This BSA camp was one that was recommended to us by our readers. Some of the pictures shown on this web page were also sent in from one of our viewers. This camp is a part of the Theodore Roosevelt council...Located in the heart of the Catskill Mountains, Onteora Scout Reservation is affectionately referred to by those who have experienced the camp as "Land in the Sky." When you arrive at OSR, your unit will be met with a traditional greeting of "Welcome Home." Besides being a great place to camp, Onteora has a lot to offer to the amateur historian. There are the remnants of sawmills, villages, ancient toll roads, quarries and more in this area.

This means that the camp is located about 125 miles NW of New York City. The camp’s address is 3, Old Hunter Rd, Livingston Manor, NY 12758. Summertime temperatures make it into the upper 70’s by day and fall into the mid 50’s overnight. Scouts are housed in canvas tents on wooden platforms. Most meals, if not all, will be prepared by the food service staff in the dining hall. Some sites have pavilions constructed for them. Also selected sites have WiFi access provided by an AT&T tower.
The camp staff is friendly and will definitely be helpful throughout the entire week. Scoutmasters must approve every Merit Badge that a scout takes, and should be sure that the scout is taking age/experience appropriate badges. Units should review requirements and determine what pre-camp preparations may be needed to complete the badge at camp. All Blue cards are handled digitally. Depending on what area your Scouter picks, merit badges will be available in these selections: Open Swim & Boating, Instructional Swim, Snorkeling BSA, Paddle Boarding, Kayaking BSA, Mile Swim, Practice Scout Craft Pioneering Projects, Geocaching & Orienteering Course Offerings, Specialty Cooking, Health & Safety Triage Response Scenarios, Practice Dan Beard Back to the Basics Challenges, Minuteman Knot Inductions, Practice Craft Lodge Open Craft Time, Practice Nature/Ecology Nature Hikes, Animal Feedings, Practice Field Sports Camp Games, Sports, Cycling, NEW Bike Track, Practice The Glaize Blacksmithing, Tomahawk Throwing, Practice Shooting Sports Open Shoots, Specialty Shoots (Watermelon Archery, Pudding Shotgun, Balloon Rifle, etc.), Practice Older Scout Program Welding, NEW ESCAPE ROOM, Service Projects, Practice Climbing Open Climb & Rappel, Practice Communications Musician Rock Out Sessions, Radio & Camp News Production Practice ATV Open Riding Time for all those who previously went through a class Session. Camp Fee for Camp of $420 per scout if $100 per scout non-refundable deposit is paid to the council by March 15, 2019, remaining balance due by May 15, 2019, of $320 per scout for a total of $420 Fee’s paid after May 15, 2019, $470 per scout. Provisional Rates to coincide with Existing Unit Camp fee structure’s Additional weeks to appear as follows: 1 st Week $420, 2nd Week $380, 3 rd Week $340, 4th Week $300 Leader Fee for camp the first 2 leaders for each unit are free after that we will follow a free adult for every 10 scouts attending camp. For example, if you 21 scouts you get 3 leaders free, 31 is 4 leaders free. The leader fee outside the example is $250 per leader.
