Summer Camps and Camp Daniel Boone

By: Posted On: 2019-06-24

A lot of people think of summer camps when they think about Scouting. Scouting and camping and being outdoors just kind of go together if you think about it. This time we will learn about Camp Daniel Boone, which is a part of the Daniel Boone Council of western North Carolina. East of the Mississippi there are 53 6,000 foot peaks. Haywood County, where Camp Daniel Boone is located lays claim to all or part of 21 of those peaks. Haywood County has the highest average elevation of any county in the eastern US. Nine 6,000 foot peaks surround Camp Daniel Boone. The camp itself is home to High Top, with a 5,263-foot summit, which makes Camp Daniel Boone the highest elevation BSA camp east of the Mississippi River. If your Scouter likes to fish, then you should know that every week … another 400 pounds of trout are put into Lake Allen. Your Scouts will catch fish! (I have heard it said you have to hide behind a tree to get the worm on the hook!)

The camp’s website is https://www.campdanielboone.org/. Camp Daniel Boone is located at 3647 Little East Fork Road Canton, North Carolina 28716. This Scouting camp is situated about seventy mile Southwest of Asheville, North Carolina. Its GPS coordinates are 35.3891° N, 82.8968° W

Summertime temperatures generally reach the low 80s during the day and fall to the low to mid-60s at night. Most of the campsites are a mixture of cabins and tents. Some but not all of them have restroom and shower facilities.

Camp Daniel Boone campers can choose from five different High Adventure camping treks: Backpacking Treks, Ropes Trek, Five Rivers Trek, Zip & Splash, or Boonesboro Village. Whether you need an activity for your older scouts while the young ones are earning merit badges, or wish to explore the mountains of North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia during one of our week-long programs, their High Adventure Base has precisely what you're looking for.  Over fifty merit badge programs are offered at Camp Daniel Boone.

The cost of the camp ranges between $325 to $525 for the week depending on which set of activities you wish to enroll in. Most of the facilities at the camp are available year round, and all kinds of events are held there from weddings to school retreats and just regular camping. Prices vary significantly depending on what type of event you are participating in…https://www.campdanielboone.org/usage
