Something very strange happened at my house the other night.
It started as the sun began to set. As you probably know, my daddy Scott, is a vampire, well he says night owl, anyway. I was minding my own business, keeping Scott company and making sure no suspicious squirrels were sneaking around, when suddenly there was a knock at the door. Naturally, I sounded the alarm. WOOF! WOOF!
Daddy opened the door, and there stood a tiny ghost! A real ghost! With two little eyes peering out at me. I half hid behind daddy and growled. The ghost giggled at me and said I was so cute.
Then another knock. This time, a skeleton! Followed by a witch, a wizard, a weird Jedi, and something green with three eyeballs. I wasn't sure what was happening, but clearly the neighborhood had been invaded. And Scott? He just stood there smiling and handing out candy!
I barked some more. Somebody had to take this situation seriously. Then something unexpected happened. One of the little monsters reached down toward me. I prepared for the worst, but instead of turning me into a frog, it scratched me behind the ears. Ohhhhh, doggie purrs....
Another goblin came along and gave me a belly rub. A tiny witch told me I was cute. Even the skeleton knew exactly where to scratch my neck. Well, this changed everything! Apparently, these creatures weren't here to haunt us. They were here to collect candy and provide free scratching services.
For the rest of the evening, I personally greeted every creature, wizard, Jedi, and mermaid who came to the door. I even wagged my tail at a vampire, although I kept one eye on those teeth.
Eventually, the knocking stopped. The porch light went off, and I settled into my cozy blanket. Boy, greeting all those beasts is hard work, and I was ready for a nap. I still don't understand why all those strange creatures were wandering around after dark. But I am hoping they come back tonight, I need more scratches.
Daddy says I found my bravery, but really I think I just found lots of wiggly fingers, that looked spooky, but smelled very much human.
