Even Slow Weeks Move Us Forward

Greeting Scouters,

I thought this week I would offer a bit of a life update, to be a bit different.

This past week has been a bit slow and off for me. My energy and focus were running low, and if I’m honest, I felt a little defeated. Running a business is hard enough, but add in permanent mental hurdles and the challenges multiply fast.

On top of that, I haven’t been able to get to Scouts much lately — the weight of business and financial struggles, plus being needed by family, have kept me close to home.

The good news? Karen’s been steady through it all, and Jack — with his three-legged charm and stubborn loyalty — has been right there to offer furry snuggles and comic relief. They’re reminders that even when I’m not at my best, I’m not alone.

Thursday we went to Rueben’s school to meet his new first grade teacher and see his classroom. That fresh-start energy was contagious, a good reminder that even when things feel slow, new chapters are always just around the corner.

But life had its curveballs, too. Karen’s abscess flared up again — enough to bring a fever and almost land us in the ER. Thankfully her sister was able to step in and help. Stressful, yes, but it reinforced a lesson I already know well: you never know what’s coming, so being prepared matters more than we think.

And while other than Tuesday I didn’t get as much work done as I’d hoped, I did push forward with creating and scheduling memes across my different brands. Small steps still count.

Tonight, as I write this, the rain has finally come. A bit of thunder, a bit of grounding — though here in the Southwest, it also carries the risk of flash floods. Another reminder that every gift of nature has its edge.

I think that’s the thread tying this week together: preparedness. Scouts are taught to “Be Prepared,” and weeks like this remind me why. Life throws challenges, sometimes blessings, often both at once. The key is to stay ready, steady, and grateful for the support along the trail.

I really appreciate all of you — not just for reading my ramblings, but for your support of Scouting and the thousands of youth we help between us all. Thank you for being part of this journey.

Keep on Wacky Scouting
Scott Robertson
