SOAP BUBBLESÂ
1/4 cup dishwashing liquid
1/4 cup water
1 Tablespoon sugar
Combine all ingredients. Use straws; thread
spools, funnels, or circles made from wire.
Cutting a straw vertically about 1" up on
four sides and then flattening it out will
make bigger bubbles.

WHAT MAKES A SUNSET RED?
Have Scouts fill a bowl with clean water. In
a dark room, shine a flashlight through the
bowl from the side. The light will remain
clear. Slowly pour a little milk into the bowl
and watch as the color changes to a reddish
orange simulating the sun near the horizon.
Explain that the effects of the hazy
atmosphere and air pollution cause the light
to refract more blue light, so the reds and
yellows are left.

RAISIN RACES TO THE RESCUE
Goofy, simple, and refreshing.
Carefully pour a glass of clear soda (to
minimize fizzing) for each racer. At the
signal, each drops a raisin into his glass. The
raisin should sink to the bottom, pause, and
as the carbon dioxide bubbles stick to it,
should rise to the surface. The first raisin to
the top wins. After several rounds, the
raisins are fished out and all racers toast the
winners.
