King Rex (Cubmaster): Cub Scouts, our Mardi Gras is over. We’ve had lots of fun tonight - and we’ll have lots more in the month’s ahead. We should not hide ourselves behind a mask or costume - we need to show our true self. And that true self is what is important to each of us.
Listen to these words:
I have to live with myself and so
I want myself to be fit to know.
I want to be able, as days go by,
Always to look myself in the eye.
I don’t want to stand with the setting sun
And hate myself for the things I’ve done.
I want to stand with my head erect,
I want to deserve all men’s respect.
In this world’s struggle for fame and wealth
I want to be able to like myself.
I don’t want to look at myself and know
That I’m bluster, bluff, and mainly show.
I can never hide myself from me;
I see what others may never see,
I know what others may never know,
I can never fool myself, and so,
What ever happens I want to be
Self-respecting and proud of me.
