Butterfly or Dragonfly Garden Stake

* Materials: 11x17 paper, scissors, wire window screen, cutters, paint markers or dimensional paints, plastic beads for eyes, plant stake with a round hook at the top, lightweight steel wire, newspaper for work surface

* Directions: Make a pattern by folding an 11x17-inch sheet of paper in half. Draw half the body and a butterfly wing along the folded edge. Cut the drawing out and unfold the pattern. Lay the pattern on the window screen. Trace around the paper with a paint marker. Cut the butterfly out of the screen. Lay the screen butterfly on newspapers and decorate it with paint. Let dry. Bend the body in half. Punch two holes in the center of the body. Thread stake through the holes. For the antenna, cut a 7-inch piece of wire, fold it in half, and thread through the head. Curl ends. For eyes, attach beads using short pieces of thin wire. For dragonflies, make a pattern and repeat the above steps. * Tips and Ideas: Hang a string from the insect’s head and use it as a mobile. Think of other insects to make.
