Greetings fellow Scouters, I am sure you and your scouts get up to some wonderful and amazing things. We would like to hear about them and maybe let the world know about it. If you would like the chance to have that amazing scouting activity, high adventure trip, camporee, day camp, jamboree, service project, amazing scouter, or whatever it is featured in one of our blog posts, please fill out this form https://forms.gle/wRHjZf43LP8mZafx5.

We have been hard at work for over 22 years, helping Scouters just like you put on more memorable activities. If you appreciate all our hard work, you could say thanks by signing up for  patreon.com/insanescouter

At a pack meeting the Cub Scouts learned about nutrition. A nutritionist came in and did some great activities with the Cub Scouts, including bringing in a chicken wrap recipe and letting each Cub Scout make his own chicken wrap. A lot has changed in the Boy Scouts of America in the past 100 years. In 1921, 1, 306 young men earned the Eagle Scout Award. This year, tens of thousands of young men and young women will earn Scouting’s highest honor. In 1921, there were just 61 merit badges available. Today, that number is 137. And what about Cub Scouting? A century ago, the official start of that popular program was still nine years away. But for all that’s changed since 1921 — the year the BSA celebrated its 11th birthday — many things have not. The values of Scouting, ......

[ISSUE 664 – 20TH YEAR OF HELPING SCOUTS, SCOUTERS, PARENTS] Hi Andy, My son has been in our local Scouts BSA troop for almost a year (he joined just before the Covid-19 shut-downs began), but despite the troop quickly converting to a combination of outdoor meetings with facemasks and separation plus Zoom meetings as soon as a woman on our troop committee learned how, there’s been no planned advancement. My son (I’ll call him “Robby”) hasn’t even earned Scout rank yet. (I know this because Robby and I talk about Scouts and we review the rank requirements pages of ......

In Venturing, young people write their own stories. That’s true at the crew level, where the youth (not the adults) plan weekend and weeklong adventures. It’s true at the national level, where the six young people on the National Venturing Officers’ Association make decisions that affect the program’s future. And it’s quite literally true in the Venturing Newsletter, a digital publication created, written and designed by Venturers themselves. With the quarterly Venturing Newsletter celebrating the release of its sixth issue this month, I thought it would be the ideal time to contact the team behind this youth-created publication. Nicole Steele is ......

My favorite of all the Scouting programs is Cub Scouting because, without a doubt, it is zany fun for youth and adults alike. This program offers so much for youth from kindergarten through fifth grade and Cub Scouting can be something in which the whole family can participate. It is hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of action, adventure, and learning. Den meetings and adventures, as well as pack meetings and activities, are designed to be fast paced exciting activities intended for active, excited boys and girls. When you join Cub Scouts, hold on; grab the ......

About 70 years ago, in the final days of the second world war, the U.S. marines and Japanese Imperial army soldiers were fighting in an area of the southern Pacific Ocean. On One of the small islands of the Pacific, the marines, among them one from Salt Lake City, were in combat against a Japanese army garrison.  One of them was wounded on his left foot and he fainted.  His own fellow soldiers didn’t know about his injury, and they moved on to the next combat area. How much time had passed, he didn’t know, and then he woke up.  ......

Members of the all-female LIttleton BSA Troop 114G. Today marks the day of recognition for the young ladies across the country who have worked to be members of this trailblazing group. Congratulations are certainly in order for all girls who have reached this goal and earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Only 7% of Scouts reach the rank of Eagle, but the young women of this class are all about exceeding the norm. Since the Boy Scouts transitioned to Scouts, BSA and started allowing girls into the program, over 30, 000 young ladies across ......

If you loved exploring the ideas in our “Five games for virtual den meetings” post, the Cub Scout volunteer Facebook community is about to make your day! Cub Chat Live, our weekly Cub Scout-focused Facebook Live show, recently challenged viewers to create a list of 25 virtual den meeting ideas in 30 minutes. In true Scouter fashion, they went above and beyond. They beat that 25-idea goal and provided some of the most creative activities we’ve ever seen — for virtual or in-person meetings. Check out the list of meeting ideas below, and help us add to this list by ......

My journey in Scouting started in Tokyo, Japan, and that is where it continues now—only this time with a wife who is fully involved and six kids who are all enthusiastic participants. Scouting is a huge part of our family recipe. It just works for us, and it is something that we all find joy in. Scouting is, in short, fun. Several years ago, I was chatting with a ski guide on a chairlift. She mentioned that there are three types of fun. Type 1 is the thrill of zooming down a water slide or bursting through a bank of ......

One of the things scouts enjoy about camping is the independence of cooking their own food. Some scouts will want to cook the easiest, quickest things possible, but others like to cook “real” food. This is a pretty heavy breakfast, but if the scouts have a full morning of activities ahead of them they usually appreciate a big meal in the morning. An it is simple enough that they can do it themselves without any interference from adults. Print Mountain Man Breakfast ......

Summer camp season always means lots of campfire programs. And no campfire program is complete without lots of skits. This skit, like many of the skits I have seen, is full of kid humor. That is why they like it so much. Get some Skittles! This skit lends itself to a den or patrol skit because you can adjust it to fit the number of scouts involved. If you only have a few scouts, then some of them can walk on multiple times. I’m ......

Pack Committee Chair is a very important position in a Cub Scout Pack. Over the years I have worked with many different Committee Chairs in our Pack, ranging from very committed to almost non-existent. So I know from experienced that a strong, involved Committee Chair really makes a difference to the Pack leaders and to the Pack program. A Pack Committee Chair must be able to juggle a lot of different things at a time and must be good at delegating.   That way he or she can provide support to the Cubmaster and Den Leaders ......

To honor Black History Month this year, we’re celebrating the next generation of world-changers who are out there making history right now, embodying Black Girl Magic across the country! While it’s important to recognize all year long the incredible talent, power, beauty, and resilience of Black women and girls everywhere—Black Girl Magic—February offers a special time to lift up the many important moments in history that have Black leaders at the center. Throughout the month, we’ll shine an extra bright spotlight on the voices and stories of Black girls who are making change—and history—across the ......

It’s February 2021 – Scout Month.  This is a wonderful time to celebrate 114 years of Scouting worldwide, and 111 years of Scouting in the Boy Scouts of America.  With all the changes and challenges during these past few years, and especially during 2020, Scouting still remains constant in its mission to “…prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.” This week and this month, all over the world Scouts will be having Blue and Gold Banquets (some still virtual), preparing for the pinewood ......

I often say that when unboxing a Scouting collection it's like opening a time capsule. Both of the collections featured in today's video are similar. One guy was an Eagle Scout from Indiana Hoosier Trails Council and OA Lodge 212.  The second Scouter was from the Viking Council in Minnesota. But they both held onto their stuff for decades before deciding to send it to me. These collections are heavy with event patches which are kinda the lifeblood of someone in a troop doing true Scouting. Just by looking through I don't see much evidence that they did much trading ......
