PACK ADVANCEMENT CEREMONIES/05-05

It has long been a legend that man’s best friend is his dog. But I say nay for I know which
side my bread is buttered. However, the pooch will come in a strong second. And husbands,
your wife better come in first.
The Cubs should be reminded that their pets are dependent on them for food, water,
shelter, protection, and love, not unlike a father’s responsibility to his family. And so the boys
should be asked how they are living up to their responsibilities towards their little family of pets.

Narration:
The Indians believed in animal spirits. These spirits helped the Indians and gave them special
powers. It was good to have the strength from many animal spirits. But, each Indian also had a
main spirit. The Indian would not reveal who his guardian spirit was unless he was near death.
We also believe that our Cubs have the spirit. The spirit of Cub Scouting.

Presentation:  
Cubmaster says, “The time has come for this lopped-eared dog-catching
Cubmaster to snag a few boys with my net for our awards presentation.” Go
into the audience and net a boy. Invite his parents to follow and bring them
to the presentation table. Tell the pack the things the Cub has accomplished
in getting to this point in his climb to the Arrow of Light. Then give him his
awards. Have him pin his mother with her mother’s pin and kiss her. A
peck on the cheek will do.
