Western Mural

On a large piece of butcher paper, paint a very basic western landscape horizon. As the boys
arrive, have them use colored markers and draw the animals, birds, reptiles, plant life, people,
etc. they might expect to see on a western frontier. The mural might be used in the pack meetings
as a backdrop for a western skit.

  Rope-throwing Contest

This game will help the Cub Scouts with Bear
Achievement 22, “Tying it All Up,” will help
Webelos earn the Aquanaut activity badge. Get a long
piece of rope and tie a small stick or other weight to
the end of the line. Make a target by drawing three
circles, one within the other, 1-, 2-, and 3-feet in
diameter, and place it on the ground at least 20 feet
away. Show the boys how to coil the rope in 1-foot
loops, hold half the loops and the weighted end in their
throwing hand and the other loops in their other hand.
Let each boy have three tries throwing the rope at the
target. If any part of the rope is touching the inner
circle, score three points; score two points for the
middle circle and one for the outer circle.

  PATCH OF THE MONTH

Historical and Pioneer Walk
Step back in time to the early pioneer days and see what they
used around their homes for travel and protection. See if you
can find a picture of your relative. Visit the Capitol and see
government in action. Also, visit the ground surrounding the
Capitol. To earn this patch, the Cub Scout must visit the
Pioneer Museum and Utah State Capitol with a den, pack, or
family. Call the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Pioneer
Memorial Museum for reservations. Call the Utah State
Capitol for tour times (optional) and for reservations for
groups larger than six.
