GATHERINGS / PRE-OPENERS/04-12

Holiday Food Wreaths

Cut paper plates into a wreath shape. Have the boys decorate them with clipped pictures of
food – especially holiday favorites – from supermarket circulars, magazines, etc... Add a gift
bow or some curled gift ribbon. Punch a hole in the top so it can be hung.

Guess the Baby Food

Collect an assortment of baby food in small jars. With masking tape and a marker, label the
jars 1, 2, 3, …, etc. on the lids. Make a master list of which number corresponds to which
food. Remove the food labels. Then have the boys guess on a piece of paper what food is in
each jar.

  What’s in the Bag?

Label several small paper bags 1, 2, 3, etc.. Gather the same number of
different items of food that are relatively durable and non-perishable.
Some suggestions might be an apple, cucumber, squash, green banana, and
a fresh green bean. Place each into one of the small paper bags and tie off
the top of the bags with ribbon or a twist tie so that no one can peak inside.
Keep a master list of which item is in which numbered bag. Have the boys
gently feel the contents of each bag and try to guess what food is inside on
a numbered piece of paper.

   PATCH OF THE MONTH

Unacceptables

What are the six unacceptables that have been
identified in today's society? Scouting, with its
thousands of boys and their leaders cooperating with
community agencies and services, can have a positive
impact of reducing the effects of unacceptable
behaviors and conditions.
