First I would like to ensure we all are on the same page by defining what I mean by cooking utensils. In simple terms these are things like spoons, spatulas, tongs, turning forks, etc that we use to cook with. I will not cover knives in the post as I have a dedicated post planned called “Cutting it all up” for that topic.
In the picture you can see that I use a tool box to keep all my cooking utensils in. I learned this trick from a chef, that catered a party, when I was in Americorps. I liked the idea so much I brought it home with me many months later and my dad and I have been doing it ever since. You can also tell by looking at this picture I carry a wide variety of utensils to even include a whisk and a hand crank mixer. As I have mentioned before I like to cook, especially in the outdoors, so I have a ton of gadgets and stuff for doing that.
I think its more important we talk about what Patrols would need. I find most Patrols will do just fine with like a cooking spoon, a slotted spoon, a spatula, a ladle, and a pair of tongs. It also may be useful to include measuring cups and spoons, oven mitts, and some kind of pliers for dealing with hot lids and pots. They will ofcourse need probably two decent knives, but we will talk about that in another post.
I am also going to save storing it all for another post as well. For now I would like to just point out cooking utensils should be stored separately, such as in there own mesh bag, or in like say a shoe box.
The last thing is this post I want to emphasise is utensils are like any other tools. Not only do you get what you pay for, but how long they last depends how well they are taking care of.
In the below picture you can see the box closed up... Please leave your thoughts and comments below.
