Eagle Tip: Giving New Meaning to the Term

 If you’ve been to many parties or receptions in the last decade or so, you’ve probably seen at least one sheet cake with a photograph on top. Bakeries around the country can “print” a photograph directly on a sheet cake and then add borders of icing or fondant. (To be more precise, they print the photograph on a thin sheet of edible paper, which they then stick on top of your cake.)

So, what does all this have to do with Eagle courts of honor? It’s simple: If your court of honor is going to include the traditional cake-and-punch reception, consider putting the recipient’s picture on the cake instead of, or in addition to, the standard “Congratulations, Billy Bob!” message.

If you want to be dignified, use a current photo of the honoree decked out in full uniform, complete with merit badge sash, medals, etc. Or, if you want to have a little more fun, use a picture of the honoree from his Cub Scout days or from when he first joined the troop. (Our troop takes pictures of our Scouts when they first join, giving us ample fodder for later years.) Larger photos will yield better results.
