I have been a little busy behind the scenes lately. Not in a shiny announcement sort of way, more in the “patrol box exploded and someone is trying to sort the pancake mix from the sugar” sort of way. Really, I just got flooded with projects for my various web dev clients. Nothing special, so I won’t bore you with the daily grind.
With that said I have started working on a bigger WackyScouter update, which hopefully will be ready in the next few weeks. For now, just know the campfire is still burning, the squirrels are still suspiciously organized, the raccoons are hording merit badges, and the monkeys are trying their hand with flint and steel. Oh, help us.
Seriously, as I have time I have been working behind the scenes to improve some of the WackyScouter tech stack, continue to share scouting resources on social media (Facebook and LinkedIn), but we also share a couple things a week to Pinterest and Instagram too, plus, trying to find a way to stabilize the finances.
Beyond all that, USScouts.org is looking for a few helping hands with HTML experience to help update its Merit Badge worksheets. I serve on the USSSP Board of Directors managing the website, and Mike Walton is the President of the U.S. Scouting Service Project. Mike recently shared that the worksheet updates have fallen behind after a rough stretch for the small volunteer team, including the loss of one helper, health challenges for another, and Mike’s own stroke recovery.
These worksheets are meant to be a helpful resource, not a replacement for official merit badge requirements or working with a registered merit badge counselor, but they still serve a lot of Scouts, leaders, families, and even non-Scouting groups. The goal is to get as many of the 131 Merit Badge worksheets updated as possible by Labor Day weekend. If you have some HTML background and would like to help with this good old-fashioned digital service project, please contact Mike at settummanque@yahoo.com or myself at scott@wackyscouter.org.
Thanks all for being amazing Scouters and serving the Scouts in your communities. Keep up the amazing work, and keep on wacky scouting!
