A while back, a friend and I went camping and rented cots from OutdoorGeeks. Will was awesome, answered all our questions, mailed us the cots & included free return shipping.

We had a minor problems figuring out how to set up the cots, even with the instructions. Think about how putting up a tent the first time can be challenging, and how much easier it gets time after time. We were surprised by how comfortable we slept on the cots. The next day our backs felt great. A major improvement over years of using air mattresses. The cots are portable and even fit into my small 3 man tent.

Did you know that renting is a fraction of the cost of new gear? Plus you don't have to store it, clean it, or move it. Renting is a great way to expermient with different gear and types of camping. Does an external pack or internal pack fit you better? Stop guessing, start renting, and go have an amazing time.

I would like to welcome our newest sponsor, and let you know about this amazing contest. All you have to do is find my post on facebook about the contest and share it. Thats it your entered. A winner would be selected on May 31, 2015.

A learning disabled child is a child who has at least an average IQ but has difficulty learning in school. Current statistics indicate that 6-10% of children in the U.S. have some type of learning disability. That means if you have 50 children in your pack, you potentially have 5 with learning disabilities. If you have 10 in your den, you are likely to have at least one with a learning disability. His Woodcraft Indians hiked and camped and studied nature, just as Scouts do....

Thoughts to Ponder

So far this month, we've spent most of our time learning first aid. We've been trying to prepare ourselves to help other people when they're sick or injured.

But there's more to being prepared than knowing first aid. Real preparedness is many things - knowledge, confidence, and having the necessary equipment on hand when it's needed. We want to be ready for any emergency.

Next week we'll be testing ourselves on our readiness for emergency action. Our tests will not only require skill in first aid, but the ability to communicate well, to think through a problem, and to work together as a patrol.

Those are the kinds of skills that are useful in a disaster. If our town was hit by a tornado, we might be called out to help rescuers, but maybe we wouldn't be asked to do any first aid. We could be asked to serve as messengers, direct traffic , or cook and serve food.

That's why it's important that we prepare ourselves by learning more about our community and by practicing all sorts of Scout skills. And that's why it's important that you take full advantage of what Scouting has to offer by taking part in all our activities and doing your best to move up in rank. By the time you're a First Class scout, you'll be prepared for many kinds of service.
