Contact your local theatre group and ask if your den can visit during a dress rehearsal.

Review the play before attending to make sure it is suitable for the boys, and also give the boys an idea as to what the play is about. While you are there, you may even get a tour of the stage area, the props, dressing rooms and lighting areas. It's a perfect opportunity to try out the stage directions. The boys may even get to meet the "stars" and get their autographs. It can be a special evening for the boys.


Write, put on, and take part in a one-act play.

Let them come up with a theme. It's easier if it's something familiar to them, such as a recent school carnival, or school project. This can be performed for the Pack after a camp out or at the camp fire during a camp Out. Use as many boys as there are in the den. The boys remain off stage until their turn, and then they stay on stage until everyone runs off at the end. Use props as desired. Boys can make up their own lines to suit their own camping adventures.


Webelos Camping Skit


Cub 1    Walks on stage with tent: This looks like a great place to pitch our tent."

Cub 2    "Let's build a campfire right here. I'll start it with Lighter Fluid - to make sure we get it going! "WOW - good fire"

Cub 3    "Hey this is a great camp site right next to this wild river! That water's moving pretty fast?

Cub 4    "I finally found some neat mounds of ants for my ant collection! OUCH! THEY BITE! OUCH!"

Cub 5    Walk in, scratching all over "That sure was an cool vine back there with 3 leaves and berries. Three leaves - isn't there something important about that!"

Cub 6    "It sure is great to be barefoot. Especially by this cool river. Oooh - what was that I stepped on! Something long, and skinny and yellow red and black! Let's see - red and yellow, friend of fellow? Or Kill a fellow? Hmm - oh well"

Cub 7    That sure was a great dinner we cooked last night. I just wish I didn't keep tasting it!" rubs belly, looks sick

Others    We thought we wouldn't find you guys. Thanks for sending the smoke signals!"

Cubs 1 - 3    "Smoke Signals? What smoke signals??"

Cubs 4 - 5    "The Tent's On Fire!!"

Cub 6 - 7     "No Problem - the rain will put it out - we now have a great rain storm"

Cubs    RUN! The river is flooding !!"

Cub 1    "I hope we get our Outdoorsman Activity badge! We sure tried hard!" everyone runs off stage


THE VIPER - A Skit

This skit or stunt can be done in several ways.

There could be a succession of dramatic knocks on a door. The messenger comes running through shouting dramatically, "The Viper is coming!"

Each messenger who comes through shortens the amount of time until the Viper comes -- "the viper is coming in an hour", etc.

Finally a Cub enters, dressed as a little old man in overalls or work shirt and hat with a bucket and rag. With a broad Swedish accent, he says, "I AM DE VIPER. I COME TO VIPE DE VINDOWS."

May be an Aggie Joke would be better. Did you hear the tail about the old Cubmaster? You get the idea.


WEBELOS SKIT

All of the Webelos are standing in a straight line, with the Den audience on the other side.

Webelos Leader is WL.

WL:    Webelos #1 how would you set out to do a good turn? (Webelos #1 takes on step forward)

WL:    Webelos #2, how would you get started on a camp out? (Webelos #2 takes one step forward.)

WL:    Webelos #3, how would you start on a hike? (Webelos #3 takes one step forward)

WL:    Webelos #4, how would you start out to achieve your first activity badge? (Webelos #4 takes one step forward.)
WL:    Yes, it is as simple as that - to make a thousand mile journey, to run a race, to learn a trade, to meet new people, to climb a mountain, to create a masterpiece, to build skyscrapers, to design a spaceship, to do anything worth-while there is always a first step and it is the most difficult one to take.

If you are to progress in life or in Tigers, Cub, Webelos, Explorer, or Boy Scouting, you must first face your goal and then get started with that all important first step. (On the words "first steps", all the boys take one step forward again and then salute.)


Movies Movies

Use empty cardboard canister (potato chips and ice cream come in them) or make one by rolling stiff cardboard into a cylinder.
Make, borrow, or buy a lazy Susan. Cut slots about 3" up from the bottom, every 2" all the way around, leaving about 1" between slots.
Cut strips of paper to fit inside canister.
Draw action sequence: stick spinning, ball bouncing, boy running, man going upstairs, fish swimming, flower growing, etc.
Place movie inside canister, picture side showing Look through the slots. Spin the lazy susan -- see the action.
(The movie needs to be well lit.) The drawing needs to be good and dark. The inside of canister can be painted black.
