It's much easier to learn and recite the facts when it is a game. Play a form of "Family Feud" outside where they boys can have a wide open area to run and ring a bell when they know the answer. Use a small table in the middle of the playing space with a bell. Divide the den into two teams. Call out a question, and whoever can run and ring the bell first with the correct answer scores a point. For added interest, state the answers and let them come up with the correct question. Add other questions about your town, county, region and state.
